The 2025 Sabah State Election was the 17th state election in Sabah. Before polling day, GRS led the state government under Chief Minister Hajiji Noor, who had governed since 2020. Warisan, led by Shafie Apdal, sought to return to power after losing office following the collapse of its administration in 2020. Unlike earlier cycles, GRS and Pakatan Harapan contested separately in 2025, while BN ran its own slate. Several former GRS and PH allies, including UPKO and STAR, also contested independently, adding to the fragmented party landscape across urban and rural constituencies.
Key issues in the 2025 Sabah State Election included state autonomy, development in rural and coastal districts, cost of living, and the stability of the GRS-led government. Voter mobilisation focused on Kadazandusun, Murut and Muslim bumiputera communities as well as Chinese-majority urban seats in the west coast. The large field of independents and local parties made seat negotiations and three- or four-cornered contests a defining feature of the campaign. Turnout reached 64.35%, with 1,148,476 voters casting ballots according to the Election Commission.
